ABSTRACT

Nanoparticles as Catalysts: Transforming Chemical Reactivity at the Nanoscale

Todd Kautz*, Lindsay Martinez, Diego Ellis

ABSTRACT

: Nanoparticles, with dimensions ranging from 1 to 100 nanometers, have emerged as transformative agents in the field of catalysis, owing to their extraordinary surface properties and tunable chemical characteristics. These engineered particles, composed of metals, metal oxides, polymers, dendrimers, or carbon-based structures, exhibit physical and chemical behaviors drastically different from their bulk counterparts. This commentary highlights the synthesis strategies, unique properties, classifications, and catalytic applications of nanoparticles, illustrating their pivotal role in modern chemistry, environmental remediation, and industrial processes. Keywords: Nanoparticles; Nanocatalysis; Synthetic nanoparticles; Photocatalysis; Quantum size effects.
